AbstractChlorine dioxide gas is effective at cleansing fruits and vegetables of bacterial pathogens and(or) rot organisms, but little data are available on chemical residues remaining subsequent to chlorine gas treatment. Therefore, studies were conducted to quantify chlorate and perchlorate residues after tomato and cantaloupe treatment with chlorine dioxide gas. Treatments delivered 50 mg of chlorine dioxide gas per kg of tomato (2-h treatment) and 100 mg of gas per kg of cantaloupe (6-h treatment) in sealed, darkened containers. Chlorate residues in tomato and cantaloupe edible flesh homogenates were less than the LC–MS/MS limit of quantitation (60 and 30 ng/g respectively), but were 1319 ± 247 ng/g in rind + edible flesh of cantaloupe. Perchlorate residues in all fractions of chlorine dioxide-treated tomatoes and cantaloupe were not different (P > 0.05) than perchlorate residues in similar fractions of untreated tomatoes and cantaloupe.

Not unless you like to chew your smoothies. It's also horrifically loud. Purchased about 3 years ago. Great price, but after only about 75-100 blends, the inner electrical connections have come undone. Very disappointing for a trusted brand. After about 20 years we finally burned out our old timer Oster.

Looked at lots of other much more expensive types and settled on this on. Love the quasi-food processor accessory. I am no expert on blenders, but this blender has performed wonderfully for my wife and I. We primarily make smoothies with the default blade and the blender has yet to complain. Love it, multiple uses, no problems. However, the food processor part is plastic, and I just broke one of the latches that holds the lid on and allows the processor to work. ***DISCLAIMER!!: I did not buy this on Amazon!****I have had this exact model for almost 4 months now, using it nearly every day and so far it's been working great. I purchased this for my morning smoothy but find it can do much more. I use it several times a day. No complaints until food processor unit broke within a year under occasional use (once every week or so). Decent value but I'm sure higher quality unit would have lasted longer. My family has always sworn by (not at) the Oster brand of blenders for their practical features and food processor.
