The smaller chopper with its matching containers is more like a traditional blender and requires a little more technique to get all the ice to be chopped into puree. We got it delivered free and paid under $90 for it online. Overall, for the price, this unit is awesome, even if it lists for over $100 now.

My old blender with a little power had the blade at the bottom and would pull the top ingredients into the bottom. The blades on this blender do NOT do that. The extra blades look attractive, but serve no purpose. I have to start and restart this blender so many times that the extra power it has serves no purpose. This thing is great for making smoothies when rushing in the morning. My daughter and I typically don't want the same ingredients, so having the ability to make individual servings without washing a pitcher is fantastic. I wanted it primarily for smoothies and was looking for something that would blend with more power than my old one. After using the Ninja, I found that there is too much undeserved hype about this product. In preparing a smoothie, I blended as normal, frozen fruit, milk and protein powder on high first. Then, added a cup of ice and blended on high again, just as I always have. My smoothie had ice chunks after blending about the same time as my old blender. I poured it back and blended it some more. Still have little crunchy ice and its whipped so much that it's foamy and not too tasty. I keep wondering if I did something wrong, but how can it be that complicated? Another disappointment is having to use my straw to get the mixture off the multiple blades as opposed to a couple at the bottom of my old blender.
Also, I am not too impressed with paying $130 for so much plastic. I'm returning the Ninja to go back to my older, all metal and glass Oster. The reason I bought the Ninja Single Serve, It has a small 20 ounce container like the Nutri-Bullet but also has a 48 ounce container too. I mean, this thing is not only loud, but it literally took over 20 minutes to blend my smoothie! That, in my book, it's just ridiculous! I finally gave up and splurged on the vitamix and I am not kidding when I say my same recipe I used on the ninja, that took over 20 minutes to blend AND STILL HAD CHUNKS IN, only takes less than 3-4 minutes now! AND it is actually smoothe! Not to mention, I never knew how good a smoothie could taste freshly blended where it's still ice cold. Every time I'd blend with the ninja I'd have to blend for so long that the smoothie started to warm up.
