Our current blender was nearing the end of its life and I had always hated how noisy it was. I was not looking forward to getting a more powerful blender known for being loud. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. This is loud, to be sure, but the sound is LESS bothersome than my old, weak blender. It's a lower pitch sound. I can stand to be in the kitchen while it is running, which is a big improvement. As to the blending: I'm satisfied. I do wish it had slower speeds, but I think that may be a compromise with the dull blade design. I love the dull blade. I can give the pitcher a quick wash without fear of skewering or slicing my finger on a sharp blade. Beware: it's not possible to make smoothies out of room temp (or even fridge temp) ingredients without the smoothie becoming warm. You have to include some frozen ingredients to compensate for the heating from this high speed blender.
