oster blender indian chutney

Hi,I have been trying to learn Indian cooking recently, and am interested in buying some equipment (blender/food processor/etc) so I can make more types of dishes. I have been researching different products all day, but I'm still not sure what is most suitable. Here are some video recipes for dishes that I'd like to make. For each, I have given a time where he uses a blender/food processor. @ ////watch?v=B7MCeQ...Here are some specific questions:1. In these applications, is it necessary to use specifically a blender or a food processor, or are they interchangeable in these cases?2. Will the whole spices damage the blades of either one?3. Can I do all of the things in those recipes with a single appliance? Or do I need to get both?4. I had considered this food processor. Would it be appropriate? /Cuisinart-FP-12...5. I would also like to make ginger/garlic paste. Is this a job for a food processor or blender?6. I've heard that Indian blenders/food processors process food differently than ones available in the US.

Will the common brands available in the US (Cuisinart, Kitchenaid, etc) be effective for Indian food?7. I've read in a lot of places that coffee grinders are the best thing for grinding spices, but in many of the Indian recipe videos, they seem to use a food processor or blender. Is there really a reason to have a coffee grinder in addition to the other appliances? I know I've asked a lot of questions... any bit of help would be greatly appreciated! It fits perfectly the blender and is super charming, perfect for sauces. If you are used to the glass version of this jar, then you will find this a cheap and flimsy imitation.

One that discolors after a few uses. I've had one of these before and lost it in the move. In my zeal to be thrifty, I tried using a small glass mason jar that I had lying about. Had one of these some time ago, have always wanted one again. Does not fit my oster 1200 pro blender. Wish they had mentioned that. And hope they start making a small jar for grinding small amount of food that fits my blender..

I have tried using my Hamilton Beach but it doesn't do a good job when I try to grind less than 2 cups or when I try to combine wet and dry ingredients like coriander seeds and grated coconut, for example.

Nisha (To All Good Questions)Curry pastes and chutneys are difficult to create with most tools available in America; the spice grinder is too small and hard to clean, and even the smaller food processors can't grind the spices finely enough. I usually end up with shards of lemongrass or half-ground coriander in my curries too. Here's a few suggestions. Comment away if you have used one of these products, or if you have other ideas for Nisha. • Try the old blender and jar trick. Most blenders, especially older models, are designed to allow you to screw a standard glass Mason jar upside down onto the base. This smaller capacity jar effectively turns your blender into a mini food processor. You can see a picture of the setup at Simply Recipes. • The Cuisinart Mini Prep Plus has a 3-cup bowl and while this may still be too big for some spice pastes, it seems to do better than comparable models in blending wet and dry ingredients. • The Moulin Wet and Dry Grinder is like a mini blender designed for both wet and dry grinding.
