I would highly recommend this unit to any of my friends or family (okay except for 1 cousin he can continue to struggle). I cough a lot during the night and can never breath through my nose as always plugged up. Not anymore since running this unit! he highest setting definitely makes more noise but I use headphones anyway so it is of no real concern to me. No more towels under the door as this machine really does a good job. ur dog has skin allergies and would scratch quite a bit - especially in the morning. After using this for one night in the bedroom she does not wake up scratching in the morning. We like it so much that we have a second one coming for the family room. Well worth the money. I noticed before using this product that when i opened my drapes in the morning, i could see floating particles through the sun rays in my bedroom. I suffer from seasonal allergies and year-round dust allergies, so I figured an air purifier may help. I've been using it for almost a month now and it has made a difference. I'll have to wait until Spring to see how well it can work to be sure, but no complaints as of yet. There is definitely a new-plastic smell when you first take it out of the box and turn it on. However, the odour was gone within 48 hours of continuous use. I keep it on the "medium" setting and yes there is a fan-like whirring noise but it doesn't bother me because that's what my fan sounds like in the Summer, and my space heater in the Winter. I'm please with this product. It made a huge difference in my basement from day one. Plus, the filter replacement are not too expensive like for some other brand. I kept putting getting an air filter off for years. Then my cat got asthma and so I got this. My life has never been the same. Don't want to live without it. It was noticeable the first night of use that the air was cleaner in our bedroom. We both slept better. I like the "white noise" it generates and I find it makes it easier to tune out the outside noise (we live in a VERY densely populated neighbourhood). The plastic smell that the unit had when first operated dissipated after the first 3 or 4 uses and we put a little bit of scented oil on the filter which also helped mask the smell. Works very well. My wife has had problems sneezing etc since we moved here and this has helped alot!! W
