kittens in a blender redshift

Kittens in a Blender originally published in December, 2011. Just in time for Christmas (a holiday perfectly suited for putting small, adorable animals into high-speed kitchen appliances). The publisher was already struggling, however, and within weeks they closed their doors. No more copies of KiaB would make it onto Santa's sleigh. Four months later, this is our effort to rescue Kittens in a Blender. Redshift bought KiaB in hopes of relaunching with a second printing--and do so in such a way that would rally support from fans of kittens (and blenders) everywhere. When we approached Brian Knudson, the designer, he was all for it. After contacting the original artist, he began work on an expansion deck. This expansion deck turns KiaB into a six-person game (twelve, if you play teams) and also adds a bit more strategic play. Redshift is now reaching out to the Kickstarter community for assistance in kicking Kittens. It will help us relaunch, and allows us to offer some cool promotional material.

But there is only so much room, so at times it is necessary to move other kittens away from the box. Kittens travel between the cardboard box, the counter, and, yes, the blender. When a Blend card is played, kittens in the box are safely removed from the game and count toward that player's victory score.

This will cover all of the Kickstarter and Amazon fees, the schwag, one half of the art and development costs, and an estimated half of the cost to reprint the game with expansion deck. Redshift will take care of the rest. If the project overfunds, we will put extra funding toward increasing Kickstarter promotional items and printing more copies for the hobby game stores. So what, exactly, will be in the new printing? The new box will contain the original Kittens in a Blender game, plus a fifty-card expansion deck. This expansion deck will add thirty-two unique kittens to the game in two new groups, allowing for play with up to six players (or teams). It will also have color-reminder cards, and flavors. Flavors add a new dimension to the strategic play of Kittens in a Blender. If you are having trouble rescuing your kittens, you really really can't keep them out of the blender, throw some vanilla extract or strawberries into the mix and make a smoothie! It's a new way to score points toward victory, and now other players have to think long and hard before sending too many of your kittens toward the evil blender.

Redshift will also print a number of stand-alone expansion decks for people who already have a copy of the original game, for delivery to Kickstarter supporters and for general release into hobby game stores. We have some great promotional material planned as well, some of which will be exclusive to Kickstarter, and some we will also use at conventions and other events to promote this card game. First, as part of the expansion deck, Kickstarter supporters will get a unique promo card, signed by the game's designers. Only Kickstarter supporters will get this card, which is being described as a new "master effect" card. There is also a convention/event promo card planned, which isn't quite as cool as the Kickstarter promo card, but you'll be getting that one too.Redshift also has two different KiaB t-shirts being designed for silkscreening. Supporters can get their choice of these two shirts: "Please..." or "Blend!" Mens style: Black, Dark Red. Women's style: Black, or pastel Green, Blue or Pink.

[We will likely add a kitten to the blender on the "Blend 'Em!" t-shirt, so watch for concept art updates!]Remember to specify your choice, style, size, and color in the comments field! At higher sponsorship levels, supporters can adopt kittens from the game, receiving an over-sized card signed by our artist. This will be a unique item, never to be done again for that particular kitten. Major supporters will be able to name a kitten from the new expansion deck (all names must meet with our approval, of course) and the very top-end pledges will work with our artist to request a kitten type or provide a picture of their own kitten for inclusion into the game. And finally, for those who appreciate crazy contraptions, we are going to offer a copy of our second game, THE IMPOSSIBLE MACHINE, among the Pledge choices or as an extra, below. If for any reason you are interested in receiving extra copies of the game or extra promotional items described above, Redshift encourages you to do so. This is especially handy for international customers who want to gang together in order to save on the shipping costs.

TWO Kickstarter exclusive cards that will help you tailor your game to a SAVE'EM or BLEND'EM style of play. If we hit our stretch goal, you will receive one of each with your game or expansion deck NO MATTER WHAT. No further pledge necessary. If we don't hit the stretch goal, we will only include the one. This card (or cards) will have new art from our artist, and will only be available to Kickstarters. In order to help everyone assist us in hitting this goal, we are going to offer two new EXTRAS. Increase your pledge by $4 to add in the new Blend'Em Pack or the Save'Em Pack. Each pack has four copies of a card which you can add to your game to either assist you in saving more kittens, or blending more kittens. If we hit our stretch goal, both cards will be Kickstarter exclusives. (Exclusive cards can be costly to print, which is why it's a $4 pack)If we don't hit our stretch goal, then one of these cards will be a repeat from a card currently in the game/expansion, but we will still end you the Pack to help you mix it up.
