Some orders may take 6 weeks to beFood processors can be a godsend if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen. While you still have to weigh out the food (with most of them), you can save yourself hours of chopping, slicing, grating, slicing and blending. We have worked our way through recipe upon recipe, testing capacity, power, noise and any fancy functions, to find the best on the market.

1. Bosch MCM4100GB: £100, Asda George The range of accessories, including a citrus press and jug blender, and impressive grating action (better than every other machine we tested) make this all-rounder a bit of a bargain. It’s easy to set up and has a clever in-built drawer to store said accessories, so it won’t clutter up your kitchen. 2. Sage The Kitchen Wizz Pro: £300, John Lewis This has a list of fancy features as long as your arm and, remarkably, it excels in all of them, chopping, blending, grating and slicing quickly and efficiently. We also love the built-in timer, wide range of attachments, adjustable thickness settings for slicing and the extra-wide food chute. 3. Hotpoint HD Line: £70, amazon Although this isn’t Hotpoint’s latest model, we reckon it’s one of the best. It comes with a bowl and jug blender, along with attachments for shredding, kneading, chopping, beating and blending. We don’t rate its slicing action as the results aren’t always even, but it’s excellent at everything else.

4. Vonshef 2.5L Food Processor: £35, amazon This is a great price for such a robust and powerful machine, which chops, mixes, slices and shreds like a dream, with easily enough space for all your ingredients. We found it tough enough to cut through almost anything – even frozen raw meat – and it has 10 variable speeds. 5. Cuisinsart 3.3L Food Processor: £205, The Hut If you’re on a budget, you could get the smaller version of this and save twenty quid, but the three interlocking bowls – use the small 1.1 litre for dips and dressings, the 2.6 for slicing and grating, and the 3.3 for kneading and large quantities – make this super-versatile one our choice.
dualit hand mixer debenhams 6. Magimix Cuisine Système 5200XL: £319, John Lewis
margaritaville blender milkshakes

The mother of all food processors from the makers of the UK’s first, this is a great choice if you’re a bit of a home-Heston. It comes with 13 accessories (including three different-size bowls, an egg whisk and a citrus press), works quickly and quietly and the 3.6 litre capacity is more than enough. 7. Dualit XL1500 Food Processor: £260, John Lewis This can be hit and miss on slicing and grating, but its kneading, chopping, mixing and blending actions are outstanding.
waring bar blender bb150It’s very heavy, so a no-go if you want to move it in and out of the cupboard to save space – but with that Dualit style, it’d be a waste not to show it off on the worktop.
vitamix drink machine 1230 8. KitchenAid 2.1L Food Processor: £125, John Lewis
oster beehive blender food processor attachment

This chic and quiet machine is the entry-level version of the brand’s Classic processor. The extra-wide feed tube (no pre-chopping required), two speeds and extra mini-bowl make it a great first-time purchase. Watch out for food getting stuck in the grooves in the lid. 9. Kenwood FPM910 Multipro Excel Food Processor: £336, Amazon Kenwood have been making food processors since 1979 and it shows: this is one of the largest, most comprehensive models around.
bamix stick blender myerFrom the wide chute (that fits a whole onion) and built-in weighing scales, it excels at pretty much everything and is basically like having your very own sous-chef.
cuisinart soup maker thermomix 10. Zyliss Easy Pull: £22, John Lewis If you don’t want to splash out on an electric processor, this manual one is a great buy.

It’s a doddle to use, clean and store away and the patented blade system enables you to carefully control how small you chop. Despite being manual, it cuts through tough foods including frozen fruit. 11. Judge Mini Food Processor: £45, amazon It might not be the fastest machine on the market, but if you want something for occasional chopping and grating and don’t want to spend more than £50, this gadget is a handy choice. It’s also not very big, which makes it nice and easy to store, and the bowl-less design saves on washing up. We love the Sage Kitchen Wizz Pro – it’s a dab hand at pretty much everything, plus it’s got nice-to-have extra features for busy cooks. A cheaper machine that we also rate particularly highly is the Vonshef 2.5L Food Processor; an amazing price for a very decent bit of kit.
