Better and more convenient than earlier modelsColor: Die Cast|Warranty service nightmareColor: White|When the machine is working, it does a good job, as indicated by other reviews in this section. But if it fails, be prepared for inferior customer service. My rating is based on this.My FP-14DC Elite failed after about eight weeks of light-to-average home kitchen use. The unit could not be turned off by using the buttons on the front panel (the safety switch had to be used or the unit unplugged). I see in the reviews that others have had the same problem. I called Cuisinart and received instructions for returning the unit. The CUSTOMER pays shipping to Cuisinart AND $10 for return shipment.A full week after they received the unit, I called regarding the status of the repair. I was told the unit had not yet been entered into the "system" and that turn-around time was 4-6 WEEKS! This is really poor warranty service in my opinion. The new Cuisinarts are made in China and are apparently less reliable than the earlier ones.

If you buy one, good luck. My savings on the purchase price was eaten up by return shipping costs, not to mention the aggravation of being without the unit for at least a month.Cuisinart FP-14DC Elite Collection 14-Cup Food Processor, Die CastUpdate: Failed again after about 8 months. Sent in for repair again. The $10 return shipping fee was waived. Now it works again, but for how long?Mixed bag appliance, absolutely dismal repair serviceColor: Die Cast|About the unit itself:----------------------Pros:Powerful and versatile food processor.Cons:- Bowls are not BPA-free; I guess Cuisinart still didn't get that memo.- Poorly designed lid: cleaning the lid is a MAJOR hassle because of the gasket design; the "SealTight" lid is far from soup and liquids friendly: forget the 14 cups, you can at best expect to process 4-6 cups of liquid without major mess.- Poorly designed hollow handle which traps food particles inside.- Flawed design of the disc system (large gap between the sides of the bowl and the edge of the discs + large fingerholes in the discs) which produces terrible shredding results.

The unit worked as intended for about 18 months of moderate household use, then the button panel suddenly became unresponsive while I was using it: it would only stay on and do nothing else while plugged, a defect reported by several other reviewers here.It was under warranty and I therefore contacted the Cuisinart customer service for repairs. That's where the nightmare started.About the repair service:---------------------------The unit weights around 30 lb. and, after receiving a service number and a shipping address, was I was instructed by the Cuisinart customer service representative to:- pack the unit in its original box and ship it, at my own expenses (a cost of around $20.0), to the service center- include a $10.0 check in the box to pay for the return shippingI was also informed that the repairs would take 4-6 business weeks. This morning, almost 6 weeks after shipping it, my appliance finally made it back home.Much to my dismay, I found out that the pristine-looking unit I had carefully packed in its original box with all the original plastic bagging and styrofoam protections had been carelessly dumped in a generic "Conair" branded cardboard box, about 1/3 too tall and wide for its content.

The box extra-space was approximatively filled with inflated plastic bags, leaving its content rattling inside; the box wasn't even taped/reinforced properly at the bottom : the lateral sides were untaped and the bottom tape seal was half split on arrival. When I unpacked my food processor, I not only found out several scratches on the die-cast base and accessory box, but the "TightSeal" gasket had also been squeezed and pinched in a way that took a piece away, leaving the already dubious lid design completely leaky.I contacted the customer service: I was told a carrier messenger would show up at my house to pick up the damaged lid within 3-6 days, that the lid would be shipped back to the service facility and that -after inspecting the damages- it would be repaired or that a new one would be shipped to me. I'm back to square #1, and it will be another 3 business weeks before I can use my appliance, bringing the delay to a total of 9 weeks which is completely unacceptable.I had chosen this product over the Breville BFP800XL Sous Chef Food Processor because of the 3 years limited warranty offered by Cuisinart (vs. 1 year for the Breville).

In retrospect, I just couldn't have made a more mistaken choice: the repairs related to a manufacturing defect of this appliance (still under warranty) not only ended up costing me about 10% of its purchase price, but also turned my pristine-looking unit into a beat-up one...I'm in the market for a stand mixer and a good blender this year and they won't be Cuisinart; I will now stay far away from the brand for any major counter appliance purchases. The whole Cuisinart customer service was obviously designed and set-up focusing on one single goal: place as much as possible of the burden and inconvenience caused by manufacturing defects and poor quality control, at any level, on the customer and his wallet. customer service reached out less than 12 hours after I forwarded them a copy of my review to bring my experience to their attention as a mere "Product and brand feedback".They went out of their way to make things right by me, even though the Amazon exchange window was long expired: they suggested I ship my current appliance back to them (at no cost) for a full refund and that I purchase a brand new replacement one, offering to keep the price tag identical to my original purchase and throwing in free 1-day shipping to make up for the inconvenience and horrible experience.
