High-powered blenders like the Vitamix and Blendtec are powerful tools in the kitchen. They can do everything from making silky-smooth soup to blending the ultimate morning smoothie to churning out homemade nut butter. As incredible as these machines are, they come with one slightly annoying quality: they are extra loud. With such a powerful motor, these types of blenders blend at a much higher volume than traditional ones, which can come as a bit of a surprise the first time you use one. Is there anything you can do about it? Well, it depends on just how much it actually bothers you. Here are some ways to mitigate the sound — from small changes to one big one. 1. Move it away from the wall. When the blender is kept in an enclosed space, the noise can bounce off the walls and make it seem louder than it actually is. Place it in the middle of your counter, at least two inches away from any walls. This should slightly reduce the volume. 2. Put it on top of a dish towel or silicone mat.
